Baroness Curran, demand more time! (ACTION CLOSED AS BARONESS CURRAN HAS RESIGNED)

ON 6 JUNE BARONESS CURRAN LEFT THE GOVERNMENT FOR HEALTH REASONS. WE WISH HER ALL THE BEST.

On 23 May Nuclear Minister of State Lord Philip Hunt retired from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and was replaced by Baroness Margaret Curran. Minister Curran takes up her role on the eve of the Spending Review, at which it is expected the government will attempt to make a Final Investment Decision (FID) for Sizewell C.

It is very surprising that there should be a change of Minister at this critical time, and we urge Baroness Curran to insist that she is given more time to get to grips with her role and really examine the Sizewell C project before allowing a FID.

There are plently of alternative choices that could help us move closer to net zero, reduce household energy bills and create sustainable jobs in every part of the UK. A recent report by Stop Sizewell C and the Green New Deal Group called for cancelling Sizewell C and putting the money saved into the Warm Homes Plan to achieve these objectives. Help us get lots of emails to new DESNZ Nuclear Minister Margaret Curran, and ask her to help Cabinet collegues make the right choices - and cancel Sizewell C
